The Sigmon Theatrical team has been working hard on the recent launch of our newest touring production: The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, reimagined specifically for retirement communities across the region.

This adaptation blends classic storytelling with interactive and sensory-rich components designed to engage older adults of all abilities. From petting a delightful puppet Toto, to smelling the poppy fields, and even popping the gentle bubbles that herald the arrival of Glinda the Good Witch, each moment is crafted to invite participation, awaken memory, and spark joy. The experience is immersive, inclusive, and deeply personal.

Theatre has the power to transport us—to remind us of who we are, where we’ve been, and what we still dream of. For many in retirement communities, experiences like this are far out of reach. Our goal is to change that.

Bringing Oz to these communities invites older adults into the magic of a story they are familiar with and love.

The response so far has been heartwarming. Residents have laughed, sung along, and shared stories of school performances, favorite characters, and childhood memories. Staff have noted increased engagement, emotional resonance, and even moments of unexpected clarity from residents with memory loss.

We’re continuing to expand the tour, with new sensory elements and community partnerships in the works. If your retirement community is interested in hosting The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, we’d love to hear from you.

Because everyone deserves a chance to follow the yellow brick road—especially those who’ve paved so many paths before us.
