Taking ÉPICO to Mexico — A Journey of Hope

his summer, our team at Sigmon Theatrical is stepping into one of the most meaningful adventures we’ve ever undertaken. We are taking ÉPICO, our giant‑puppet, immersive storytelling experience, to Tecámac and the surrounding villages on the outskirts of Mexico City — a region full of vibrant culture, resilient families, and communities eager for connection, creativity, and hope. Once our NC-based cast arrives, we'll have two days to build additional props and puppets, as well as incorporate a local cast of Mexican performers that will travel along with our show for those two weeks.

We’ll present twelve free outdoor shows, reaching thousands of children and families who have never experienced anything like this before. It’s the kind of work that reminds us why we do theatre in the first place.

Why Mexico? Why Now?

This opportunity came to us at the perfect time, grabbed our hearts, and we knew we had to jump! Many communities in these rural areas area face social and economic challenges that limit access to arts experiences — especially ones designed for children and families. That’s where ÉPICO comes in. Our show blends interactive theatre, giant puppetry, music, and storytelling to create a high‑impact, family‑friendly experience.

Through our partnership with John and Tracey Pieters with Mesa Global, we’re able to bring this experience directly into neighborhoods, plazas, and open spaces where families already gather. No tickets. No barriers. Just wonder.

This project is only possible because of the incredible collaboration happening on the ground in Mexico. Local governments, churches, and leaders are helping coordinate sites, promote events, mobilize volunteers, and build relationships with families who attend. Our role is to bring an amazing show — the puppets, the performers, the production design — and to create an unforgettable experience for these communities.

It’s humbling. It’s exhilarating. And it’s exactly the kind of work we feel called to do.
