On a bright Charlotte morning, McColl Park burst to life with joy, awe, and Sigmon Theatrical's special blend of true wonder. Our team was presented with the opportunity to create and produce an opening spectacle worthy of the city's creative pulse—and what followed was a performance that quite literally took flight.

When we first heard about this from our creative partner Robert Krumbine of Charlotte Center City Partners, we knew this would be quite the show. We work each year with Robert and his team to produce the Novant Health Thanksgiving Eve Parade, Charlotte SHOUT! festival, and more. This high-profile event would host dignitaries and special guests from around the country, including the legendary Hugh McColl who the park is named after.
Our hand-tailored production included a custom music track, dozens of gorgeous butterfly puppets, and for the finale, the breathtaking ascent of a butterfly aerialist who soared 30 feet in the air.
“When developing this piece, we wanted to awaken the spirit of wonder in every person seated in that park, and for a moment, let their imaginations take flight.” says Caleb Sigmon, our Creative Director. "The full team really came together to make this happen, and we couldn't have pulled it off without our partners at Aerial Concepts, Inc. who made the flight to life. Seeing Kiana (our butterfly performer) rise up along the city skyline is something I'll always remember."
We've become known for our immersive storytelling and multi-sensory performances, and it is always a massive honor to be a part of signature events and moments like this. As McColl Park opens its arms to the community, we’re honored to have helped set the tone for what it will represent: creativity, community, and the courage to fly.
